About us
Union “Women of the Don Region” is a regional organization, which was born in September 1993. These were troublesome times of the beginning of the market reforms. Design offices were closed down, factories stopped working, thousands of people lost their livelihoods. The Action Team through the media turned to the active part of the women of Rostov region, to those who were looking for a way to fulfill themselves, who took caring of the family and the children into their hands. «All who have confidence in your ability to succeed unite!» was the call. The founding congress in Novocherkassk brought together more than 100 women from all major cities in the region. But you should not think that the Union «Women of the Don Region» was created only for women. This was women’s idea supported by men. March 31, 1994 the organization was registered by the Department of Justice at the Administration of Rostov region. It was composed of five NGOs. Today the Union “Women of the Don Region” is one of the major non-governmental organizations of Rostov region, which includes 15 registered NGOs, 12 action teams and 75 activists from different cities of Rostov region.
March 31, 2010 Regional non-governmental organization Union “Women of the Don Region” was 16 years old.
From 1995 to the present time our organization operates a public reception. Qualified lawyers, human rights activists, and psychologists advise citizens on various issues of family, labor, pension, and housing legislation, help draft-age men, army conscripts and their parents.
Over the years, more than 8000 people have sought advice.
Over 15 years, more than 5000 people from different areas of Russia took part in the Union’s projects.
These are army conscripts, people affected by armed conflicts and man-made disasters, teachers of high schools and universities, psychologists, journalists, MPs and representatives of executive bodies of local self-government, businessmen, policemen, students, and simply people with active life philosophies.
Some were given a hand to cope with stressful conditions: the military and residents of post-conflict regions of Russia received psychological help and acquired the skills of self-help.
Others “attended” with us the school of a citizen: mastered the basics of fiscal literacy, acquired the experience of self-governing.
Teachers from Rostov region, together with their counterparts from the Chechen Republic designed tolerance education programs for students, and participated in activities aimed at preventing teenage legal nihilism.
To continue the effective work, the Union «Women of the Don Region» needs support of the local community.
